Finding Time for Yourself

Moms, this one is for you in light of Mother's Day being 2 days away!

I'm not going to lecture you on how important it is to find time for yourself or give you a list of benefits. I've found it more helpful to hear what other moms do to fuel up, to do little things for themselves so that they can be better moms and wives.

Here are my Top 8 "ME" things:

1. Paint my finger nails.
-It's nice to do something feminine to balance all the testosterone in my house. I don't do this all the time, but at least once a month it's nice to get all girly.

2. Start the day with a cup of coffee.
-I wake up with an alarm (most days) and sometimes get to enjoy my hot coffee alone before the kiddos barrel into the room.

3. Pick healthy snacks.
- Sometimes I don't feel like it, but at least I have the option to have a healthy snack with the kids. It's not all salt and sugar in this baker's kitchen. Pretzels are my absolute favorite, but apple slices, yogurt, and almonds are almost always well stocked.

4. Stick to a scheduled Me/Quiet time.
- Isaac is starting to out-grow naps and on the days he'd rather play, he has to stay in his room and give me time to myself. Eli was in an afternoon preschool class so this set-up made for a more routine "me time." Now that he's out of school, I don't think it will a problem for him to play quietly for 20 minutes and enjoy the break from little brother.

5. Enjoy a hobby that's all my own.
- During my quiet times, I fill it with reading, "researching" online...aka Pinterest, or sewing. It's a nice break from board books, tractors, and blocks....and chores.

6. Listen to uplifting music.
- Instead of turning on the tv for background noise, I listen to Christian Contemporary music on the radio or Pandora. The songs of God's love and faithfulness are also great reminders of where I get the patience and grace for each day.

7. Get enough nighttime sleep.
-I know this isn't possible for a lot of moms; believe me, I'VE BEEN THERE. My children were horrible sleepers until 1 1/2 y.o. and even now wake up on occasion. But, getting enough sleep is crucial to good days for me.

8. Ask for help.
- Some nights I just need a bubble bath, so asking Kendall for help with the boys is what I do. I'm so grateful that he understands that I just need some time alone and can't always get out of the house to take that time.

What do all of you other moms do to make time for yourself? What do you do during that time?
