This August I turned 29. My kids keep reminding me that I'm getting older, but "not as old as Dad!" :)

I thought I'd give myself a different kind of gift this year and came up with a list of 30 things to do before I'm 30. Help keep me accountable? I may need advice and ideas for some of these, so give me your best!

In no particular order:

1. Try a new food

For this picky eater, this may be a leap for me. I am a cautious person and "new" things take some convincing before I give them a try.

2. Lose 15 pounds and get fit

Stress has taken hold of my body lately and comfort foods are my go-to. I took out my winter wardrobe last week and I wasn't surprised to find many of the pants don't fit like they did last year. The treadmill and I are going to become fast friends. Or enemies. I haven't decided yet.

3. Host a party...not for the kids

So much of my time is devoted to the kids, I thought it would be fun to act like an adult for a night. I'm guessing there are other moms that feel that way, so I think a night focused on "me" would be a nice treat.

4. Go out dancing

I haven't had a night of dancing since I was in college so it's time!

5. Piece together and sew a quilt

This is something I've wanted to do for a long time. The problem is there are way too many cute patterns and colors! How can a person decide which one to make?

6. Save $1000 toward a family get-away

I can give up a few cups of coffee and meals out to save for a fun trip for the family. We don't have a destination or a deadline, but this is the first step to make it happen. Eli's choice: Disneyland,
Isaac's choice: California, Kendall's choice: National Parks, My choice: Anywhere outside of Sioux County!

7. Paint the kitchen

I started this project 5 years ago and haven't made much progress since. Do I finish or start over at this point? What color should I switch to? If you haven't seen it yet, give me your opinion over a cup of coffee and whatever I have baked at the moment.

8. Make up a new recipe and submit it in a contest

This one is right up my alley. Obviously the hardest part will be narrowing it down to which recipe to submit :)

9. Make date nights more of a priority and go out at least once a month

August and September: Check!

10. Umm....this one's for Kendall only

You don't need to know about this one ;)

11. Finish my Bible theme study

God put something on my heart and I've been digging deep into His Word focusing on a specific theme and how it's revealed throughout scripture. I have a few books left to study before I start compiling my findings.

12. Read 30 books

Reading is relaxing for me. To help decrease my stress levels, this is something I need to do more of. Last weekend I read 2 books, so I'm well on my way to 30 books before 30.

13. Join a Bible study

I can't make it to the ladies group that my church hosts due to schedule conflicts, but I do miss doing a study with other women and would love to find a group that would let me join. Know of any? (Mon/Tues nights)

14. Start a Facebook business

If you could make money doing one of your hobbies, would you take the leap and do just that? This is my challenge for myself. Stay tuned to see if I can make it work!

15. Visit friends more :)

Everyone can benefit from spending more time with their friends.

16. Print more photos and make more albums- don't leave them digital

I lost a years worth of photos when my laptop crashed, I don't want this to happen again!

17. Write 30 blog posts

This is sort of my digital journal, so if I want to look back on life and remember how things used to be I need to take advantage of this blog more often.

18. Attend a concert

Maybe combine this with one of those monthly date nights? Or spending more time with friends? Even introducing the boys to their first concerts? The options are endless.

19. Journal and take more pictures......record our story

In the moment I rarely remember to take pictures. I want to be more intentional of this. AND writing things down. Some of the things the boys say are absolutely hilarious and I would love to write these down for future embarrassment. :D

20. Do a 30-Day Challenge

A fitness challenge, a photo challenge, a blog challenge, a reading challenge, etc. If I like the first month maybe it will be a new challenge every month! Who knows. (Give me your ideas of what I should start with!)

21. Run 30 miles

Not at once. No. That could be a mile a day or working my way up to increase my endurance. Sorry, no marathons for this girl.

22. Go  __________________________

If I had a free day, chances are I would stick around the house. I'm a big time introvert and I don't get out much. I desire to change that so I'm challenging myself to take more opportunities to get out and enjoy the world around me.

23. Take a day trip, unplanned

I want to take the kids and see where we end up, what we can find. Have a real adventure and make some memories.

24. Get another tattoo

The tattoo bug has bitten and I've been itching for more ink for a while. I haven't decided if I will add on to what I already have or get something new. Both? We shall see!

25. Run a 5K

I've only ever signed up for one 5K and I walked it. This time I WILL run the whole thing.

26. See a show

Lord willing, this comes true in December. We're signed up to see The Lion King and Phantom of the Opera. I can't wait!

27. Take a class/ learn a new skill

Is there a power-tool 101 class somewhere? Or a fun cooking class? Putting myself out there and learning something new sounds like a fun time to me. If only I could challenge Mr. "I don't like people" to do it with me.......

28. Create a family tree

Do you know your family history? I know some of it, but I'm sure there are great stories that I haven't taken the time to listen to yet. Writing it down for the kids will also help them come middle school when they have to do this for a project.

29. Get new family portraits taken

The last professional photos we had done were our wedding pics! I would say 7 years later is plenty of time to wait. I would love some great family pictures that we can use for Christmas cards and to print for the frames on our living room wall.

30. __________________________

This one is blank intentionally. I want to seize an opportunity for something new and adventurous when it arises.

If you had to make a Bucket List, what would be on it?
